Bullying among kids is considered as a serious issue that can have long-lasting effects on both the victim as well as the participant. Such an event, if not handled well will lead towards creating mental health troubles with kids. Let us understand some of the bullying that a kid goes through day-in and day-out.1.Physical BullyingPhysical bullying involves any form of physical aggression or violence directed towards another child. Signs of physical bullying may include unexplained bruises, cuts, or injuries, frequent complaints of headaches or stomachaches (often to avoid going to school), missing or damaged belongings, and reluctance to participate in activities that they once enjoyed.2.Verbal BullyingVerbal bullying consists of using words to harm, intimidate, or humiliate another child. Signs of verbal bullying include name-calling, teasing, taunting, making derogatory remarks about appearance or abilities, spreading rumors or gossip, and threatening language. Children who are victims of verbal bullying may become withdrawn, anxious, or exhibit changes in mood or behavior.3.Social BullyingSocial bullying involves manipulating social relationships to exclude, isolate, or manipulate another child. Signs of social bullying include exclusion from peer groups or activities, spreading rumors or gossip (often through social media or text messages), ignoring or giving the silent treatment, and manipulating others against the victim. Children experiencing social bullying may display signs of sadness, loneliness, or a sudden decline in friendships.4.CyberbullyingCyberbullying occurs through digital platforms such as social media, text messages, email, or online gaming. Signs of cyberbullying include reluctance or anxiety about using electronic devices, withdrawing from online interactions, sudden changes in online behavior or social media use, receiving threatening or demeaning messages, and sharing personal information or images without consent. Cyberbullying can be particularly challenging to detect but may have profound emotional effects on children.5.Psychological BullyingPsychological bullying involves tactics intended to undermine a child’s self-esteem, emotional well-being, or mental health. Signs of psychological bullying include manipulation, gaslighting (making the victim doubt their perceptions or reality), constant criticism or belittling, threats of harm or violence, and isolation from friends or peers. Psychological bullying can be subtle but profoundly damaging, leading to anxiety, depression, or feelings of helplessness. How do I Recognize it?We atMentoring Minds Counsellorsbelieve that recognizing bullying requires vigilance and open communication with children.
