You know sometimes when we are sitting on the window doing nothing just looking at the rain and we just look at the sky or sometimes suddenly we just get hit to a wave of nostalgia, sadness, or even inspiration out of nowhere. Yeah, you’re not imagining it rain really does mess with our moods.
But, what according to you give it this? Or Why does a little water falling from the sky have the power to turn our emotions upside down?
1. Lack of Sunlight = Low Energy
When the sun goes down; Our bodies rely on sunlight to produce serotonin, the “feel good” chemical that helps keep our mood balanced. When it’s cloudy or raining, sunlight is scarce, and that dip in serotonin can leave us feeling tired, irritable, or even a bit down.
We discussed in one of our blog on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) It’s a real thing and while it’s more common in winter, even a few days of gloomy weather can trigger similar feelings in sensitive people.
2. Rain Changes Our Routine
Rain has a funny way of putting a pause on things. Plans get canceled, commutes slow down, and you’re more likely to stay indoors. While that sounds cozy at first; it can also make us feel restless, isolated, or bored. Humans are creatures of habit, and when our rhythm gets thrown off, so does our mood.
3. The Sound of Rain Sparks Reflection
Let’s be honest there’s something undeniably calming about the sound of rain tapping on a window. But that calm can quickly tip into melancholy. Why? Because rain creates the perfect backdrop for introspection. It slows things down and gives us space to think… sometimes too much. That overthinking spiral? Yeah, rain can help open the door to that.
4. Temperature Drops Can Drag You Down
Cold, damp weather isn’t just uncomfortable it can make your body feel tense and tired. When your physical state is low-energy, your mood often follows suit. Add to that the gloomy atmosphere, and it’s no wonder we can feel a little off when it’s pouring.
5. Rain Can Also Spark Creativity or Comfort
But it’s not all doom and gloom. For some people, rain is comforting, nostalgic, or even inspiring. Writers, artists, and deep thinkers often say rainy days help them focus or tap into creative energy. That’s the magic of rain it can just as easily bring peace and motivation as it can bring mood swings.
So, What Should I Really do remain Energetic?
If rain tends to bring your mood down, try to add a little light literally and figuratively into your day:
- Listen to upbeat music with bass.
- Try to keep moving as it does help the body to witness the move and makes it active.
- Don’t be quite just try to Talk to someone. Sometimes just connecting with another human can pull you out of the gray.
We at Mentoring Minds Counsellors understand that it’s okay to feel a little off when it rains. Your brain and body are just reacting to the shift in environment. The sun will come back, and so will your spark.
