We all carry a hidden shadow within us the side that surfaces in the form of anger, jealousy, fear, guilt, or resentment. These negative emotions can feel like a devil inside us, whispering thoughts we don’t want to hear and making us act in ways we later regret. But just like every story with a villain, there’s always a lesson to be learned.

The Reality of Negative Emotions

Negative emotions are part of being human. They aren’t signs of weakness or flaws; they’re signals. Anger shows us where our boundaries are crossed. Fear warns us of potential danger. Jealousy uncovers unmet desires. Guilt reminds us of our values. Left unchecked, though, these emotions grow louder and darker, feeding the “devil inside” until it begins to control us.

How the Devil Works Within?

  • It thrives on silence – Bottled-up emotions fester. The more we hide them, the stronger they become.
  • It feeds on comparison – The devil loves when we measure our worth against others, fueling envy and insecurity.
  • It multiplies in stress – When we’re exhausted or overwhelmed, negative emotions sneak in and take over our thoughts.

How to Tame the Devil Inside?

  • Acknowledge them: Say, “I’m feeling angry” or “I’m feeling jealous” instead of denying it. Naming the emotion lessens its power.
  • Channel them: Anger can fuel creativity, fear can sharpen focus, and sadness can build empathy.
  • Release them: Talk, write, cry, meditate, move your body give the emotion a way out before it eats you from within.

The Gift Behind the Devil

We at Mentoring Minds Counsellors understand that every negative emotion carries a hidden message. Instead of treating them as enemies, we can treat them as teachers. The “devil inside” only grows when we ignore it; when we face it, it turns into guidance, growth, and strength.

Negative emotions don’t make us bad people they make us real. The key is to stop letting them drive the car of our life. Acknowledge the devil, listen to its message, but keep your hands firmly on the wheel.
